In my last post I talked with you about the Pentagram. I included a picture of the five point star. Each point in the star is an "Element". So what are these elements? There are a few ways to look at elements. In science we have the periodic table filled with elements. In Feng Shui there are elements in a Bagua chart that tell you how to set-up your home in perfect balance and harmony, etc. Either way these elements all have one thing in common. This is a way to connect you to the physical world. This is very important to me because my mind often wonders off causing lots of anxious feelings. It is essential to stay grounded! I could give you the statistics but it's quite widely known that the mental health of todays society is, sadly, not at its best... Learning about elements may not work for everyone but it is something that has worked wonders for me. It is so easy to get caught up in work, school, responsibilities and expectations. Sometimes people around you are literally draining the happy out of you or maybe you're doing it to yourself without even knowing. When was the last time you looked around and really enjoyed your surroundings. Really looked in the mirror and was completely grateful for everything you have or have accomplished? Even if that accomplishment is just getting through a day. It took me hitting absolute rock-bottom to be able to do this. When I had nothing is when I realized how much I appreciated the most basic or simple things. Food on the table. Even if it's only crumbs and I had no idea when I'd have money to get another meal. We all need to appreciate this beautiful earth we call home. Yes, there is bad in the world. But there is also good and though you may have done wrong in the past you can always choose to have a new day / choose the good. These elements are the basis of the craft and you will need to know them well. When I first pined a picture of a Pentagram on my wall my brother had a talk with me. He was worried I was getting into some kind of deep trouble. Which is understandable. Every time someone sees this ancient symbol it is associated with something bad. I am here to inform you that I had no bad intentions and fully was aware of what I pinned on my wall that day. Wicca or Witchcraft can be a religion. But it also doesn't have to be. It is not my religion but it is something I practice and enjoy. You don't need to be sworn in or anything. If you practice the things I will teach you here and your intentions are pure and good; then you are a good witch! My mother always told me to not be 100% dedicated to anything. She believes in a balance. I think she is right. There needs to be balance in just about everything. An example of this would be Lemon Water. Lemon water is very good for you to drink but if you drink too much of it or drink it everyday it actually is very bad for you. This has been proven to me time and time again. I don't recommend that you take the craft and make it an all-day, everyday kind of thing. But I do want to open your eyes to the magic that is all around you! Something you can keep in the back of your head for when you need it. What is a Pentagram? A pentagram is a five point star. Symbolically used in ancient Greece. A symbol of Faith by many wiccans. The way I like to think of it is on its own it is a star I have drawn as a child. The star inside of a circle is a little more meaningful. The circle is sacred. It is an object with no start and no end. The circle may never be broken. So the star is safe when it is in the circle. Safe from harmful words, safe from negativity, safe from hurtful people, etc. I have drawn this star inside its circle many times for protection against toxic, emotional vampires. When I started my new job there were a few people that I swear had it out for me. I simply drew the star on a sticky-note and hid it in my desk. I also took a moment to hold it in my hand and take some deep breathes. I thought about how much I wanted this job to work. I thought about how I just wanted to gain friends not enemies. I told the star to keep me safe in the workplace and that I will try my best to shine a smile onto all around me. Needless to say. It worked. The same people that were angry with me were now nice and friendly. I absolutely love my job! Like most religions: There is a good and bad way to view many religious symbols. The most basic one is to simply turn it upside down. The Christian Cross is something holy. Turn the cross upside down and it means something a lot more sinister. This is the same with the witches pentagram. There are good witches and bad witches. No worries! I am a good witch. I will only be talking about things that are for the good of ones spirit. Spreading peace, love, joy and happiness! These are my intentions. As you see in the photo above: This is what each point and each line creating the pentagram means! The star honors each witches element. Spirit, Water, Fire, Earth and Air. These elements are the basis for the type of craft I practice. I am obsessed with nature. We are part of nature and nature is a part of us! You belong here just as the trees that provide us oxygen It also adds in some basic guides to try and live by. These are love, gratitude, respect, compassion and forgiveness. Hope this gives you some insight on this symbol. Not something scary at all. Thanks for reading! -Brittany |
